The U-Boat brand’s creator Italo Fontana was inspired by the work of his grandfather, Ilvo Fontana, who devoted himself to designing timepieces for the Italian navy. His watches had to be large and easily readable, in order for naval pilots to be able to quickly ascertain the time under any conditions. Though Italo Fontana’s grandfathers work was never officially adopted, his ideas survived and were passed on to his children and to his children’s children. Today Italo has resurrected his grandfathers dream with new, streamlined modern designs and sensibilities that bring past and future together in a synergy of utilitarian design that is more than the sum of its parts.
